No hidden cuts on the tasker's pay. No mystery service charge. Dockhand makes money two ways: a small fee on every booking, and optional monthly subscriptions for people who use us a lot. That's it.
Use Dockhand once and never pay us a monthly fee — we make our money from a small service fee on every booking. Use Dockhand a lot? Subscribe for a loyalty rate that saves you money on every job.
No subscription. Post jobs, pick taskers, pay only when you book.

Individual handymen pay $20/mo and keep 100% of what they charge — Dockhand doesn't take a cut of your pay. Small business and Commercial business crews pay a flat monthly plus a 5% platform fee on invoices booked through the platform. No surprise fees, no payout reductions.
For one-person operators — handymen, students, retirees, weekend earners. Includes the Verified badge from Day 1.
For trade crews — landscapers, painters, handyman businesses with up to 5 team members. Includes Verified Pro program eligibility.
For established trade companies with 5+ team members. Same flat platform fee, unlimited seats, multi-category coverage, and fee adjustments on larger contracts.
| Add-on | Cost | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Promoted Tasker boost | $50 / week | Boosts your profile to the top of customer searches in your service area for 7 days. |
| Featured business listing | $100 / month | Hero placement on biz.html category pages. Small + Commercial biz only. |
| Verified Pro insurance review | included | Upload your Certificate of Insurance — admin reviews + activates the Verified Pro badge for every team member. No separate fee. |
Dockhand never deducts fees from your payout. The 5% platform fee on crew jobs is invoiced separately or netted at the end of the month — you choose.
If you're the person your neighbours ask "who do you use for that?", Community Hosts is for you. No monthly fee. No quotas. You refer customers OR taskers — and earn 2% on every job involving someone you brought in.
| What happens | Who | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Tasker takes home | The crew that does the work | $200 |
| Your Community Host kickback (2%) | You | $4 |
2% of $200 = $4 to you. Refer one job a week, that's $200+/year of passive income from connections you'd be making anyway. Paid out of Dockhand's share — the customer's cost and the tasker's pay aren't affected.
Plain English, no fine print.
No. The tasker quotes you a price, and that's exactly what they take home. The service fee is shown separately and charged to the customer. For Small business and Commercial business crews, there's a 5% platform fee on the invoice — but it's billed separately, never deducted from the tasker's payout.
They're two different things. The service fee is what the customer pays Dockhand for running the platform — a standard rate for pay-as-you-go bookings, and a lower loyalty rate for Cottage Plus or Host portal subscribers. The platform fee on invoices is a separate 5% Dockhand charges trade crews (Small business + Commercial business subscribers) on the invoice value of jobs booked through the platform.
If you subscribe to Cottage Plus ($9/mo) or the Owner portal ($49/mo), your service fee drops to a lower loyalty rate on every job for as long as you're subscribed. The subscription pays for itself in a few bookings each season for most property owners, and almost immediately for active short-term rental owners.
Verified Pro is for trade crews — Small business and Commercial business subscribers — who upload a current certificate of insurance. A Dockhand admin reviews each upload before the badge appears on your profile. Once approved, every member of your team gets the premium badge, eligibility to charge 30-40% above platform average, and priority placement in customer searches. We send reminders 30, 14, 7, and 1 day before your insurance expires so the badge never lapses.
The subscription prices ($9, $20, $49, $99, $199) are before HST. HST is charged on the Dockhand service fee only — the tasker's quoted price is their HST-included rate (if they're HST-registered). We remit our HST to CRA on your behalf.
Yes. Monthly subscriptions cancel at the end of the current billing period. No long-term contracts, no cancellation fees. If you stop subscribing, you simply revert to the standard pay-as-you-go rate on the next booking cycle.
Dockhand pays it out of our share, not on top. On a $200 job, the Community Host earns $4 (2% of the job). The customer's cost doesn't change. The tasker's pay doesn't change. Dockhand simply shares a slice of our fee with the person who brought everyone together.
You enter your card at signup, but you aren't charged for 30 days. Your team's Verified Pro badge goes live the moment your insurance is reviewed and approved (usually within 24 hours). Cancel any time during the trial and you owe nothing. After 30 days, the monthly subscription ($99/month for Small business up to 5 members, $199/month for Commercial business 5+) begins automatically and renews monthly.
We send reminders 30, 14, 7, and 1 day before expiry, with a copy to Dockhand admin. If you upload a renewed certificate before the expiry date, the badge stays continuously live. If the certificate lapses, the badge is automatically removed from every team member's profile until you upload a current one and admin re-approves. Your subscription doesn't change — only the badge.
Cottagers, hosts, taskers, crews, community hosts — there's a path for you. No catch.
