Dockhand, based in Ontario, is the organization responsible for personal information collected through dockhand.ca. Privacy questions can be sent to dockhandadmin@gmail.com or by phone at (416) 892-5655.
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Name, email, password | To create your account and let you sign in |
| Phone number (optional) | To allow the other party in a task to reach you |
| Town and approximate address | To match you with nearby Customers or Taskers and price the job |
| Profile photo and bio (Taskers) | To show your profile to potential Customers |
| Task descriptions, photos, messages | So Taskers can quote and complete the task |
| Government ID and selfie (Taskers only, via Stripe Identity) | To verify identity before payouts. Dockhand never stores your ID image — it stays with Stripe. |
| Voluntary credential documents (Taskers on Small Business or Commercial tier) | Certificate of Insurance, reference contact, and category credentials (e.g. ISA Arborist, ECRA, HCRA, BCIN). Uploaded voluntarily and used only to display a neutral "Insurance on File" or "Credential uploaded" indicator on your profile. Dockhand does not certify authenticity, currency, or adequacy. See section 9 for full handling. |
| Payment details (via Stripe) | To process payments. Dockhand never sees your full card or bank details — they are held by Stripe. |
| Ratings and reviews | To build a trust signal for other users |
| Device, browser, IP address, basic usage logs | For security, fraud prevention, and to keep the service running |
| Analytics events (Google Analytics 4) | To understand how pages are used, where visitors come from, and which features are working. Aggregated and anonymized where possible. |
| Web push notification token (if you opt in) | To send you in-app notifications about new matching jobs, accepted offers, payment events, and dispute updates. You can revoke at any time in your browser settings or device settings. |
| Calendar feed URLs (Hosts only, optional) | If you connect an Airbnb or VRBO iCal URL in the Host portal, Dockhand polls that calendar so it can suggest turnover jobs between bookings. We read check-in/check-out dates and unit names; we do not see guest identities, payments, or reservations content. |
We use your information to:
Other users. When a Customer posts a task, Taskers whose services match the category see the task title, description, town, and any photos. When a Tasker accepts a task, the Customer sees the Tasker's name, photo, ratings, and contact channel. The Customer's full address is shared with the Tasker only after the booking is confirmed.
Service providers. We use trusted vendors to run the Platform. Each is bound by their own privacy obligations:
Some of these providers store data outside Canada (typically the United States). When personal information leaves Canada, it is subject to the laws of the country it is stored in.
Legal requirements. We may disclose information when required by a Canadian law enforcement request, court order, or to protect the safety of users or the public.
We do not sell your personal information.
We keep account information for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period after closure (typically up to 2 years) to handle disputes, comply with tax and accounting rules, and prevent abuse. Anonymized data may be kept longer for analytics. You can request earlier deletion — see Section 7.
We use browser local storage to keep you signed in and remember preferences (such as which dashboard view you used last, or which filter you applied to a list). This is functional storage; it does not track you across other websites.
Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how dockhand.ca is used — which pages people land on, where they come from, which features they try. Google Analytics drops first-party cookies on your device for this purpose. IP addresses are truncated before storage and we have not enabled Google Signals, advertising features, or cross-device tracking. You can opt out at the browser level by installing Google's opt-out add-on, or by blocking the googletagmanager.com domain.
Advertising. We do not use third-party advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or social-network conversion tags.
Push notifications. If you grant push permission, your browser stores a push token that we use to send you booking and payment notifications. Revoke at any time in your browser's site settings (or for iOS, in the Notification Settings for the installed home-screen app).
You have the right to:
To exercise these rights, email dockhandadmin@gmail.com. We respond within 30 days.
Passwords are stored using industry-standard hashing through our auth provider. Communications between your device and our servers are encrypted in transit. Access to personal information by our team is limited to what is needed to run the service. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep yours safe and will notify you of any breach affecting your information as required by law.
Taskers on the Small Business or Commercial tier may voluntarily upload supporting documents — typically a Certificate of Insurance and category-specific credentials (e.g. ISA Arborist, ECRA, HCRA, BCIN, OSSWA, gas tickets) — and may provide a customer reference contact. This section describes exactly how those documents are handled. You must read and agree to it once before any upload can be made.
Uploading a document causes a neutral indicator to appear on your profile (for example: "Insurance on File" or "Certificate of Qualification uploaded"). The indicator states only that Dockhand received a document at the time of upload. It is not a certification of authenticity, currency, adequacy of coverage, or ongoing compliance. Dockhand does not confirm licences with issuing bodies, does not confirm insurance with carriers, and does not undertake to monitor whether uploaded documents remain valid. Customers are advised in the Terms and on booking screens that they must confirm current credentials directly with the Tasker or with the issuing authority (for example, Skilled Trades Ontario at skilledtradesontario.ca) before hiring.
Only you and named Dockhand admins can access the files themselves. No customer, no other tasker, and no third party sees the documents. Document URLs are not public — they are protected by row-level security and time-limited signed links, so they cannot be guessed or shared.
Documents are stored in a private storage bucket on our hosting provider (Supabase), in Canadian data-region infrastructure where available. Files are encrypted at rest using AES-256 and in transit using TLS. Access requires a valid Dockhand sign-in plus admin or owner-of-record authorization at the row level — we do not rely on URL secrecy.
On your profile, only neutral indicators of upload are shown — for example "Insurance on File" with the carrier name and expiry date drawn from the document you uploaded. The document itself is never made public; policy numbers, personal details, and the file are never displayed. These indicators are neutral: they do not represent that Dockhand has confirmed the document or that the coverage remains current.
We keep uploaded documents while your account is active. If you withdraw a document or close your account, the file objects are deleted within 30 days and the database records are anonymized, except where Ontario law requires us to retain a record of the upload event (a log noting who uploaded what and when) for up to seven years for business-records purposes.
You may withdraw an uploaded document at any time from your account. Withdrawing removes the file and removes the associated indicator from your profile. We will not contact you to undo this. Withdrawal does not affect your underlying Dockhand account; you remain a tasker on your subscription tier.
Uploading documents is optional. If you do not agree to this document-handling section, you can still use Dockhand as a customer or as a tasker, but you cannot upload documents and no upload-based indicators will display on your profile.
Dockhand uses automated systems — including artificial-intelligence ("AI") models — to help run the marketplace. The features that consume your personal information are:
Human review on consequential decisions. No account suspension, payout reversal, refund determination, or removal from Dockhand is made solely by an automated system. A Dockhand operator reviews and signs off on any such decision before it takes effect, and you can request human review of any algorithmic outcome that affects you by emailing dockhandadmin@gmail.com.
Model training. Dockhand does not train AI models on your personal information, your messages, or your task content. We use third-party AI providers (currently Anthropic) under terms that prohibit them from training on our data. We do periodically review anonymized, aggregated platform data internally to improve matching and pricing models.
Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) requires your consent before we send you commercial electronic messages.
Transactional messages — booking confirmations, payment receipts, dispute notices, account-security alerts, and other messages necessary to operate your account — are sent under the consent you give by creating an account and using the service. You cannot opt out of these while your account is active.
Promotional messages — product updates, feature announcements, marketing newsletters, referral program nudges, and similar — are sent only with your express consent, captured at signup or in your account settings. You can withdraw consent at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any promotional email or by emailing dockhandadmin@gmail.com. Withdrawal does not affect transactional messages.
